Ethiopia Africa
Ethiopia is located in
the horn of Eastern Africa with a total surface area of 1.1 million square
kilometers sharing an international boundary with Djibouti, Eritrea, Sudan
Kenya, and Somali. Ethiopia is the third populous country in Africa next to
Nigeria and Egypt. The total population is projected to reach 71 million as of
July 2004, and is expected to reach 129 million by 2020 doubling the 1994
population figure (Demographic indicators, CSA, Population Census reports of
1994). For the last five years (between 2000 and 2005), the population has
grown by two million persons per year with an annual growth rate of 2.7 percent
(Ibid). The population is also relatively young with 44 percent under the age
of 15 years and about 52 percent under the age of 18 (Ethiopian population
structure by age and sex, CSA, July 2000).
The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahido
Church - Child and Family Affairs Organization (EOC – CFAO) is an indigenous
not for profit Non - governmental Organization (NGO) established in 1973 by the
unreserved effort of great apostles. It was established in response to the
increase in the number of orphaned and famine stricken children in Wollo,
Tigray and Gondar areas due to the 1972/73 drought. The organization commenced
its life saving mission by converting church schools or seminary into Child
Care Center (CCCs) with the help of “Bread for the World” which is a
humanitarian organization in Germany and its historic partner Kindernothilfe
(German Christian organization) which means “Help for Children in need”.

HHF is working with HBCU BUS TOUR to increase college attendance:
Over the twenty eight years HBCU have placed students into historically
black colleges and universities, HBCU realized there was a lack of connection
between young adults, high schools and communities with HBCU’s. Overall our
students were not prepared for college nor does the community understand the
great services offered by HBCU’s. As a member we ask you to invite as many of
your families, friends, high schools, churches, and any organizations that are
interested in putting young adults into college.
